Spotlight On: Deon Bridges

Deon Bridges is a Senior at Urban Prep Academy’s Englewood Campus. Mr. Bridges’ 3.5 grade point average has landed him on the Honor Roll every semester of his high school career. Mr. Bridges lives in Roseland, one of Chicago’s toughest communities; and remains steadfast in his pursuit of his education.

In addition to excelling in academics, Mr. Bridges plays for the Urban Prep Baseball Team and is a manager of the Basketball and Football teams as well as a member of the Student Government Association. Even with this schedule, Mr. Bridges finds time to volunteer in his community, be a mentor/positive role-model to his 8-year old younger brother, and work part-time in a grocery store on the south-side.

Upon graduating from Urban Prep, Mr. Bridges will go to college and plans to study to be a meteorologist. He was incredibly inspired by Dwyane Wade during his visit to Urban Prep and was most impressed by “how resilient he is” and how he “never let negative things that happened keep him from pursuing his dreams.” When asked to what he attributes his own success, Mr. Bridges responded: “Urban Prep and my family have taught me to be dedicated, committed, and focused and that I have a responsibility to my community. I won’t let them down.”
